One of the fashion trends we’ve noticed this year is for argyle patterned sweaters.
This diamond check design is a popular motif in vintage knitting patterns but more recently it has very much been the preserve of golfwear.
But now it is back in both super bright and monochrome versions for this winter. Check out this fashion mag gallery for some colour ideas.
We’ve been browsing online patterns to find some ideas to get you in on the look (clockwise from top left):
Argyle Man by Suzanne Frary is what you expect from an argyle sweater with the pattern on the font panel with a plain back and sleeves but you could easily have an all over pattern or panels on the front and back.
Diamond Back Argyle Vest by Jane Tanner is another classic argyle style. A pattern like this can be adapted for whatever colour combinations you like.
On the other hand, instead of an over all or large argyle panel, you could use the check as a feature or highlight on your sweater here as in Argyle Sweater by Bernat Design Studio.
Argyle patterns aren’t just for sweaters, they are very popular for accessories where you can have a flash of pattern in your outfit.
The Argyle Cowl by Tanis Gray is definitely one way to try it out or you could go for a flash of pattern at the ankle with some traditional argyle socks like these by Margie Dougherty.
If you don’t enjoy colourwork or bright argyles aren’t your thing, how about a lace pattern that references it instead? The Miss Argylechild’s sweater by Anne B Hanssen should provide some inspiration.
