Knitting - The State of Mindfulness

When I was a little girl I used to sit next to my mother and watched her crochet. Since then I was mesmerized with yarn and what you can make with it. I have always wanted to learn how to knit but had no one to teach me. So my dreams of knitting faded away. It wasn't until I was in my early twenties when I watched the movie Now, Voyager starring Betty Davis which piqued my interest in knitting again. I got my chance to learn when I was reading the local Sunday newspaper and it was advertised for the Philadelphia Knit-out. I was so excited to finally go and learn my dream. From then on my love for knitting never stopped. After learning the basic stitches (cast on, knit, and purl) I bought a book and taught myself how to knit even more stitches. At one point my knitting became an addiction. There were times I woke up early in the morning and started mindful knitting on a project I was working on at that time. I'll take it almost everywhere I go. And, sometimes I just like having it with me and not do anything with it.

Knitting - The State of Mindfulness

Time has passed when I started to notice a change in how I was mentally feeling and thinking. My anxiety was taking a major toll on me and I didn't know why. The passing of three dear family members between the years 2017-2019 only made it worse. And, I felt like I was alone. For a while, I packed a small project bag in my work bag, and every chance I got I knitted even if it was only a few stitches. As soon as I got home from work all I wanted to do was eat, knit, and sleep and wake up to do it all over again. For some reason, knitting was taking away the anxiety and easing my mind so I can concentrate on my project.

I don't remember when I started to use KnitPro needles but, I do know that the moment I held them in my hands. The smooth and softwood needles felt like the perfect pair of gloves. I promised myself that I will replace all my needles with KnittersPride needles. I think that is the moment I realized I may be a bit of a needle snob. I took a trip to my local and seen the perfect needle set. The KnitPro interchangeable set. I love them so much and they are now my go-to needles when I knit something of any size.
