Is there anything more beautiful than flowers?

Flowers have this mystical ability to convey our deepest emotions to the ones we cherish in a way that words often cannot. So today, we're going to create beautiful carnations and tulips!

Why Carnations and Tulips, you must ask?

It's quite simple, really. These flowers symbolize love in their purest form, making them the perfect choice for a heartfelt gift on a special occasion like Mother's Day. They're like a gentle embrace, ideal for expressing our unconditional love.

Instructions:

Flower:

  1. Begin with a magic ring and work 6 single crochet (sc) stitches into it, marking the first stitch with a stitch marker.
  2. In the next round, make 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch around. Repeat this 6 times.
  3. Continue with a single crochet in one stitch, then 2 single crochet stitches in the next, repeating around.
  4. For the next round, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet stitches in the following stitch, and single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this around.
  5. Next, single crochet in the next 3 stitches, then make 2 single crochet stitches in the following stitch. Repeat around.
  6. Then, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, make 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, and single crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat around.
  7. Rounds 7 to 17: Work 36 single crochet stitches in each round. Join with a slip stitch and chain 1 at the end of each round. Bind off, and leave a long tail for sewing later.

Leaf:

  1. Chain 31, then starting from the second stitch from the hook, single crochet across. Add wire as you go.
  2. To shape the leaf, work 2 single crochet stitches, 3 half-double crochet stitches, and 18 double crochet stitches. Use a stitch marker to mark the first double crochet stitch. To decrease, work 3 half-double crochet stitches and 2 single crochet stitches together. In the same stitch, make 1 single crochet, chain 1, and 1 single crochet.
  3. Turn the work, then repeat step 2.
  4. Turn the work again, slip stitch, cut the yarn, and leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. To make a hook, bend the top of the wire.
  2. Insert the wire through the center of the crocheted tulip.
  3. Secure the wire in place with hot melt adhesive.
  4. Stuff the tulip with fiberfill and fold it in half.
  5. Weave in the loose ends and snip extra yarn.
  6. Wrap the wire with floral tape or green yarn for a finished look and added stability.
  7. While wrapping the stem, insert the excess wire of the leaf. Tie the end of the stem with a hot glue gun.

Finishing:

  1. With a 10" piece of main color yarn and a wool needle weave in and out along the top of round 2.
  2. Pull the yarn to gather the flower into a carnation shape. Tie and knot it securely.
  3. Bend a floral wire in half and insert it into the top part of the flower and out of the bottom section. Insert the wire into the calyx to form canation. Use floral tape to wrap around the wire to create a stem.
